Adhe Adhure is considered as a modern classic of Hindi literature by Mohan Rakesh.
It is about the incompleteness of contemporary life and shows a middle class family on the brink of collapse. A classic play talking about the contemporary issues faced an by ordinary middle-class home in India, Adhe Adhure is ultimately a play about victims of circumstance, who are not innately demonic but are rendered so because of their pecuniary concerns and expectations of society. What makes Mohan Rakesh's portrait of Savitri (one of Hindi theatre's first feminist icons) so gripping, is that one is never sure whether he admires her rage to get a grip on her life, or whether he suggests that she is a woman caught in her destiny and circumstances in the manner of a tragic Greek heroine.
The play had won the Sahitya Natak Akademi Award.
The play attempts to understand the very purpose of life. Life is a journey, which is an expression of our long –standing perceptions. It doesn't happen often that a play written and performed over 40 years ago still appears ahead of its times.
